Q: Can you tell us about the benefits of Sidwell Summer’s Discovery Day Camp program?

Cate: Absolutely! Our day camp is designed to foster an environment where children can try new activities and explore their interests in a supportive and engaging setting. We offer a wide range of activities, from cooking and art to sports and creative movement, so every day is different! Each week of the 6-week program is themed (think Under the Sea or Around the World!) which allows campers to come for multiple weeks but learn and create with new activities! The teachers and counselors are with us all 6 weeks which allows campers to build lasting friendships and a deeper connection with our dedicated staff.

Q: What makes the theme-based learning approach in Discovery Day Camp so effective?

Cate: Our weekly themes are fun because it integrates various activities around a cohesive theme each week that the whole camp celebrates. This approach makes learning more immersive and fun. Children get to see how different activities connect in exciting ways, which enhances their engagement. Plus, it’s just a lot of fun to delve into a full-themed week of activities - that usually ends in a fun way (think Magician or Carnival!!

Q: How does the program cater to the individual interests of the campers?

Cate: We pride ourselves on the fact that our camp days can be flexible in a way that allows us to tailor activities based on the interests and enthusiasm of the group of campers. Say they are super into scavenger hunts or a particular art activity, our staff can incorporate that into the week or let campers keep engaging. This adaptability helps us ensure that campers feel comfortable and engaged day after day, week after week. We love that we can be responsive to our campers' growing and changing interests throughout the summer. We also have camps for different ages, Like our Jr Discovery Day Camp for ages 3 to grade 1!

Q: What specialist activities can campers look forward to in Discovery Day Camp?

Cate: Our campers will enjoy a variety of specialist activities this summer that will allow them to try new things and stretch their skills. For instance, the cooking workshop allows campers to explore culinary arts, while our art workshop encourages creativity and self-expression. Each activity is led by staff members who are passionate about their specialties and love working with children!

Q: Can you clarify how long a camper should attend Discovery Day Camp?

Cate: Certainly! The Discovery Day Camp runs for 6 weeks during the summer (end of June - beginning of August!). However, recognizing that families have different needs and schedules, it is designed for a camper to come for 1 week, 6 weeks, or any length between that. This flexibility helps families plan a summer that works best for their family while maximizing the fun and learning experiences for the campers.

But don’t worry, we have other programs that run before and after Discovery Day Camp if you are looking to fill your summer!
