Five (Sidwell) Summer Snapshots to Grab Your Interest- Inspired by Real Camp Experiences

Sidwell Summer is in SESSION! And while we can’t invite all of you onto campus, we want to give you a peek into the incredible experiences our campers are having at Sidwell Summer. From the Bethesda Campus to the DC Campus, each week is filled with fun, friendships, and unforgettable moments. Here are five snapshots that showcase the diverse and vibrant activities your camper might be enjoying at Sidwell Summer this summer!

Snapshot 1: Creative Arts Camper - Mia (Age 7, Bethesda Campus)

Mia, an imaginative 7-year-old, was overjoyed to join the Creative Arts program at the Bethesda Campus of Sidwell Summer. As she entered the classroom-turned-art studio, her eyes widened at the kaleidoscope of colors and materials that awaited her.

Throughout the week, Mia experimented with various art forms, from watercolor landscapes to whimsical clay sculptures. One unforgettable moment was when she and her newfound friends created a life-size mural, splashing vibrant colors with laughter filling the room.

By the end of the week, Mia's creativity had soared, and she beamed with pride as her artwork was displayed in the camp exhibition. Sidwell Summer had ignited a lifelong passion for art in her heart.

Snapshot 2: Discovery Junior Day Camp - Leo (Age 4, DC Campus)

Leo, an energetic 4-year-old, couldn't wait to start his first week at Sidwell Summer's Discovery Junior Day Camp on the DC Campus. He eagerly waved goodbye to his parents and joined his new friends who were blowing bubbles and laughing in the courtyard.

Throughout the week, Leo engaged in various activities, including story time, arts and crafts, outdoor play, and water play. A memorable moment was when he and his friends built an impressive fort out of cardboard boxes, giggling with excitement as they crawled through its tunnels and secret passages.

By the end of the week, Leo had grown more independent and confident. His parents were overjoyed to see him thriving at Sidwell Summer, and they’re signing him up for another two weeks!

Snapshot 3: STEP (Summer Studies Enrichment Programs) - Olivia (Grade 6, DC Campus)

Olivia, a curious sixth-grader, was eager to explore enrichment-style workshops in the STEP program on the DC Campus. As she walked up to campus on day 1, she felt nervous but that soon slipped away when she saw peers chatting and playing Spikeball as they gathered.  

During the week, Olivia delved into arts, math, and hands-on projects that challenged her creativity and problem-solving skills. A highlight was when her team successfully won the debate challenge, celebrating with high-fives and cheers.

By the end of the week, Olivia felt inspired and empowered by her STEP camp experience. Sidwell Summer had given her the opportunity to discover new interests, sharpen her academic skills, and create unforgettable memories.

Snapshot 4: Lacrosse Camp - Noah (Grade 6, DC Campus)

Noah, a sixth-grade sports enthusiast, was pumped to up his game at Sidwell Summer's Lacrosse Camp on the DC Campus. As he laced up his cleats, he felt a mixture of excitement and anticipation for the challenges ahead.

Throughout the week, Noah participated in drills, honing his skills and learning new techniques in a small group setting that allowed him to have more time with experienced coaches. One exhilarating moment was when he mastered a new skill he had worked on all week!

By the end of the week, Noah had improved his athletic abilities and gained valuable life lessons in sportsmanship and perseverance. Sidwell Summer had provided him with an unforgettable experience that would fuel his love for sports. He can’t wait to come back next week for Baseball Skills Camp! 

Snapshot 5: Theater Camp - Ava (Grade 3, DC Campus)

Ava, a third-grader with a flair for the dramatic, eagerly awaited her first week at Sidwell Summer's Theater Camp on the DC Campus. As she walked up to her group, she felt a surge of excitement and a sense of belonging.

During the week, Ava explored various aspects of theater, from acting and voice to stage placement and facial expressions. A standout moment was when she improvised a hilarious scene, leaving her fellow campers in stitches and earning a standing ovation.

By the end of the week, Ava had gained confidence and new skills, while meeting new friends and having fun. Sidwell Summer had given her the chance to express herself, discover the magic of theater, and create memories that would last a lifetime.
